Could you briefly introduce your award-winning product or company and explain what makes it unique in the market?
Dunord creates shelf-stable meal kits with Canadian farm surplus and wild-harvested ingredients from the boreal ecosystem. The company is on a mission to reduce food waste by making upcycled foods irresistable and convenient for every day life of busy Canadians. Their first line of products includes their Forest Risotto, Boreal Daal, and Gaspesian Ramen.

How was your experience during the competition and the exhibition?
Being a part of the startup village at SIAL put us right in the middle of the action with buyers from various industries and distributors coming to see what innovations were hitting the market. For a CPG startup like us, it was an amazing opportunity to leap forward and have first conversations with important buyers and industry partners.

Did you experience a “SIAL effect” following your participation in the competition?
SIAL gave us a clear window into bigger retail chains like Sobeys, but also smaller local retailers like VITA Health and others.

Have you seen an increase in sales or interest in your brand as a result of this award?
The pitch competition definitely gave us a unique opportunity to pitch our concept to the industry and garner interest from big players. The award certainly validated our positioning as a brand to watch in Canada.

In a few words, what do you take away from your participation in the SIAL Canada exhibition and the competition?
The SIAL Start-Up Pitch competition was a major highlight for us in 2024, as it gave us an opportunity to boil down our value proposition to the core, and to communicate it to a hundred industry professionals. Our booth in the startup village also gave way to a large amount of first contacts with major retail partners.
