The SIAL Canada story from its beginnings to today
Established in 2001 and held every two years, SIAL Canada, known as SIAL Montreal at the time, is the brainchild of three organizations that were all shareholders of the event: the ADAQ (Association des détaillants en alimentation du Québec), the Groupe Export agroalimentaire Québec-Canada and the Société Comexposium (owners of the SIAL trade shows et subsidiary of Unibail Group). To meet the ever-changing food market and seize its business opportunities, SIAL Montreal became an annual show in 2007. These developments led the show to strengthen its national and international position, becoming SIAL Canada and, in 2010, alternating editions between Montreal (even years) and Toronto, Canadas economic capital (odd years).
In North America, Expo Canada France Inc. (part of the Comexposium network) is responsible for the organization of SIAL Canada. In 2005, SET Canada first set up at the same time and place as SIAL Canada, allowing the event to supply the entire food sector. In 2010, SET Canada adapted to changes in the industry and defined a new, richer content that was in line with economic realities:
• Retail sectorization (SET MAG) and catering (SET HRI) and, in 2011, the packaging and processing industries (SET PACKING); • Creation of expert trail "traceability," "techno-SET" and "eco-set" in 2012; • Programming Conference • SET becomes part of SIAL and the equipment and technology sector.
In 2016, SIAL continues to offer a wide variety of activities and conferences by recognized professionals, as well as workshops and key buyer programs – making us the largest food innovation trade show in North America.
